Mobile RPGs that don't treat you like a chore list

The problem with a lot of phone RPGs is that they stop being games and start being part-time jobs. Daily quests, login streaks, energy bars. I want to play when I feel like it, not clock in.

The good ones let you pick up and put down freely. Save anywhere, pause mid-fight, come back after three days without a punishment. That design respect is the first thing I look for now.

Turn-based combat suits phones better than most twitchy real-time systems, because you can think between taps and not panic when someone talks to you. Give me readable enemy patterns and real build choices and I'm happy for hours.

You don't need a hundred-hour epic on a touchscreen. A tight twenty-hour story with characters you remember beats an endless grind every time.
